Product Review: Fall 2012 FW Maybelline LE 24 Hr Color Tattoo

Thursday, September 27, 2012

When I first heard that Maybelline was coming out with Limited Edition 24 Hour Color Tattoos for Fall 2012 Fashion Week, I was so excited to go find and try them out! I already own a few color tattoos from their permanent collection so I already know I would like them. But every drugstore that I hit up, there was no display of them at all. I eventually gave up on my hunt.... until this week I stopped by a local drugstore and actually walked past the full display. I had to take a step back and looked at it again and finally figured out it was them! I was being really good and only grabbed two of the four LE colors that is available.

LeftRich Mahogany RightGold Shimmer

Top: Gold Shimmer Bottom: Rich Mahogany

Swatches (w/o primer) Left: Gold Shimmer Right: Rich Mahogany

First Impression: I picked Gold Shimmer and Rich Mahogany because I felt there were the most neutral out of the four (others are Mossy Green and Barely Beige) and I can use them as part of my everyday look for work. Gold Shimmer is more on the shimmer bronze-y side with a metallic gold finish. And Rich Mahogany is a darker brown with hints of burgundy shimmer. Since I've used these before (I love Bad to the Bronze) I know I really like the quality and the creamy texture of these eyeshadows. I also think their pigmentation is amazing! The swatches above was done with one good swipe! I honestly don't need to use eyeshadow primer because they act like an shadow base already. The colors are buildable and once applied, I haven't experience any shimmer fallouts or creasing.

Price: $7.99 + tax ($6.99 for me b/c I had a $1 off coupon for each.. yay!)

Overall: IMO, they're worth it for the price esp for the quality of a drugstore eyeshadow. I really like the fact that I don't really need to use primer with them (a step I can skip in my morning routine) and the colors are just perfect for the Fall season. Now I wouldn't wear them for 24 hours that they are said to be, but I know they truly do last on my eyes!

Here's proof of the staying power when I went to go take these swatches off..

EOTD (Eyes of the Day)
I used Gold Shimmer as an all over lid color and Rich Mahogany on the outer corners.
Applied with fingers and a blending brush to blend out the harsh lines and that's it! Really simple.
Put on some black eyeliner and mascara and I'm ready for the day! :)

  33. First of all, I absolutely ADORE your blog, and am now following ;)

Secondly, I totally agree with you about this product. I have yet to pick these two particular shades up, but like you, I own a few others from their permanent line. I love them! While these colors are super pretty and having amazing staying power, I don't think I'll be purchasing them only because I have several colors that are almost quite identical to these two :)
