Happy Tuesday!
Living in Seattle my whole entire life, I never did anything 'touristy' besides going to the Space Needle and riding the Great Wheel down at the Seattle Waterfront. I was recently invited to experience an Seattle activity courtesy of Xperience Days. They are a company that provides most of the major cities in the United States with all kinds of fun activities that you can possibly think of. You can choose your location, search for the activity, and filter by price. You then book your tickets and they will send you the confirmation certificate once all has been chosen. They make it really easy for you!
For my experience, they had sent me a list of Seattle activities to choose from. I, of course being the major foodie, wanted to try out the Pike Place Market Culinary Tour. I've known about it forever but never had the real urge to go just because I've walked around Pike Place Market hundreds of times and know most of the great food places within the market. So I had thought...! I was super excited about it and even better that I got to bring along my husband/photographer. :) We started out at 9:45am to meet up with the group and our tour guide, Brett at the Market Theater nearby the infamous gum wall (pic above). There was a total of 16 people in our group which was nice because then you won't get too spread apart. They provided individual headsets to put in one ear so you can hear the tour guide as if you were standing right next to him. He started off with the history of the Pike Place Market and even more through-out the whole tour. Things I never even know of! Did you know that the first Starbucks ever wasn't where it's currently at in the market? Mind-blowing!
Here are the food stops of the Culinary Tour:
(plus what we ate!)
Daily Dozen Doughnut Company - mini cinnamon sugar donuts
Market Spice - market tea (#1 seller)
Pike Place Fish - 3 types of smoked salmon (The famous fish throw!)
Frank's Quality Produce - local apples, green, and red grapes
Pike Place Chowder - seafood bisque and New England clam chowder
Chukar Cherries - variety of cherries
Beecher's Handmade Cheese - mac & cheese and hazelnut cracker with flagship cheese
Piroshky, Piroshky - beef & cheese piroshky and apple cinnamon roll
Etta's - Tom Douglas' dungeness crab cakes
Impromptu stops with samples:
Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt - cheesecake and berry greek yogurt
Rachel's Ginger Beer - blueberry and original ginger beer
The tour lasted for two hours. Unfortunately we pretty much ate the food so quickly that we didn't have a chance to take photos. hehe.. but it was fresh and delicious! Trust me! :) I would have to say my favorites were the Pike Place Chowder Seafood bisque and the Tom Douglas' dungeness crab cakes. So good!! Right after the tour ended, I went back to get more seafood bisque and try their other chowder as well. We also received an VIP card to use amongst all the stops we went on along with other participating local businesses for a 10-15% discount. A great deal!
Thank you to Xperience Days for allowing me to take a day to have fun being a tourist in my own wonderful city! And if you are ever in the Seattle area, I would highly recommend this culinary tour. Or if you want to check out their other activities, click here for more!
